SRG Online Silent Auction
in aid of
The Royal British Legion & Help the Heroes Raises £185!
You may remember we very kindly had several paintings created and donated by the Grandfather of two of our Year 7 pupils, Isobel & Dylan Percy. These paintings depict the poppies that symbolise Remembrance Day for all the service men & women who lost their lives in battle. We hope you will agree that these are beautiful illustrations signed by the artist himself Mr. Phil Hughes. Phil Hughes is a three times award winning artist with work in private collections around the world, Phil is what is commonly referred to as a figurative painter, sketching and painting in front of the subject, using a variety of mediums. More about his work can be found on his Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/philhughesart/
St Richard Gwyn held the online Silent Auction for these paintings to raise funds for The Royal British Legion & Help the Heroes, the Auction Bids have managed to raise a massive £185. Thank you for all your support.
Duke of Edinburgh Awards
Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is GO
Mae Gwobr Dug Caeredin yn MYND
It is with great excitement that this year sees the return of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Programme to SRG. On Monday Lunchtime, 34 students from Year 10 decided to take the first steps and find out a little more about a scheme that has been running internationally for 60 years.
The DofE Award programme runs at 3 levels, Bronze, Silver and Gold. To gain an award students will complete a physical activity, learn a new skill, volunteer in the community and undertake two expeditions during the next 12 months. With support and guidance from a number of staff the students will be given a wonderful opportunity to experience something different and well respected by employers.
Mr M Hughes, who will be leading the programme explained,
“the award really is special, its gives students something extra, it builds confidence, develops resilience and most of all puts a huge smile on your face! We really are looking forward to running the award again at SRG and seeing our students achieve more than they previously imagined.”
If you are a Year 10 student interested in getting involved in the award scheme then it is not too late. Enrolment forms will be given out on Monday November 14th in a short meeting in T10 at 12.30 lunchtime. If you are a parent/carer who also feels they could offer help or support to this initiative please contact Mr Hughes here at St Richard Gwyn.
We wish everyone good luck with the award and look forward to seeing their achievements over the year.

'Science of Dragons'
We were proud to host an amazing 'Science of Dragons' show this week which all Year 7 and 8 students were excited to watch.
'Scientific Sue' presented lots of awesome demonstrations using our students as assistants and showed how much science knowledge was used in the writing of the 'How to Train Your Dragon' series of books. Students enjoyed seeing how dragons could actually fly, produce massive smoke rings, coloured flames and multi-coloured urine! At the end of the show we were presented with a box-set of the complete collection of ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ books which will now be available for pupils to borrow from the school library.
As part of the Year of Mercy it would be nice to participate in the call for prayer put out by the Prison Fellowship.
October 9-15th is Prisons Week and we are asked to pray for offenders, their families, the victims and communities. Father Luigi has prepared information for use in form worship/class prayers next week. Link.
Cake and a Cuppa
Cacen a Paned
The Macmillan "Cake and a Cuppa" event was a huge success. There was a fantastic array of cakes, cupcakes, and cookies, highlighting how busy students and parents were last week.
Everyone had a wonderful time. I am so thankful to everyone who helped make this such a success. From helping organise the event, baking, serving, or giving a donation and joining us for a cake.
On the day we raised nearly £321.81p and still had lots of cakes left-over. We dropped off a large selection at Rhiwlas Care Home in Flint - the staff and residents were all extremely grateful and were looking forward to their treat as we left. The remaining cakes were split between the Share Shop in Chester (they give the homeless free coffee and cakes), and the Soul Kitchen which offers food and conversation to the homeless and lonely also in Chester.
Thank you all for making this such a special occasion, and for making a difference to so many people.

St Richard Gwyn Achievement Evening
St Richard Gwyn Catholic High School Year 11 students recently celebrated their Thanksgiving Mass, Achievement Evening and Prom. During the day, Fr Luigi Morrone, the School Chaplain celebrated an inspiring Mass with the students choosing the readings and hymns that were part of the service. The following evening, parents, teachers and students filled the Sports Hall to witness presentations from musicians, singers and readers, before Mr Keating presented the students with their Record of Achievement folder. He said’ All the staff would like to wish our Year 11 students the very best for the bright futures ahead of them. They will be in our thoughts and prayers’. The second part of the evening took place at the Mountain Park Hotel in Flint where the students enjoyed a wonderful buffet meal and danced the night away. There was laughter and tears as friends remembered the great times that they had shared together, whilst watching a presentation of photographs of their journey through school. It was a night that will be remembered for a long time.
