Welcome to the Religious Studies Department
Curriculum Leader: Mrs S Jones
Staff Members: Mrs S King, Mr M O'Regan
Welcome to the RE Department. I hope you feel as welcome to this page as you will to the department. We have a suite of rooms with a team of specialists and a chapel which is used for reflections and sacramental reconciliation as well as Mass on Fridays. We use a variety of approaches to develop young people in their religious education and spirituality.
Key Stage 3
During Key Stage 3 pupils develop their religious literacy through a programme of study in line with the advice of the Diocese. It follows the Curriculum Directory and also includes units on Hinduism, Judaism and Islam. The Icons Scheme is being replaced by 'People of God' which we are piloting.
In KS 3 pupils have day retreats called Emmaus Days.
Key Stage 4
At Key Stage 4 all pupils Study GCSE Religious Studies. The Course follows WJEC Specification B, however this is in the process of being updated as Welsh Government requirements are implemented from 2016.
Key Stage 5 (Post 16)
All pupils study for the Welsh Baccalaureate qualification. Religious Studies contributes to this with modules on Religion in Britain, Religion and Human Rights, and Religion and Environmental Issues in Year 12.
In Year 13 a 'Face to Faith' programme has begun this year.
There is also an option group studying WJEC 'A' Level Philosophy and Ethics.
